COMMUNICATION SKILLS At the end of the course, students will be able to use the technical language of molecular biology. In addition, communication skills and the comprehension ability will be developed and evaluated through the presentation of group works, focused on the analysis of a scientific publication. MAKING JUDGEMENTS At the end of the course, students will be able to interprete literature data and choose the the experimental method more suitable to carry out a gene expression analysis with a targeted approach. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING At the end of the course students will be able to: - apply the scientific method of research - plan and perform experiments of gene expression analysis by means of quantitative RT-PCR assays. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING At the end of the course, students will know the following topics: - composition and organization of plant genomes (nuclear, mitochondrial, plastid DNA) - impact of polyploidy, transposable elements and horizontal gene transfer on the evolution of plant genomes - genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of regulation of gene expression - experimental methods for the analyis of gene expression (targeted approach).
